Choosing a priority

You can't run your today anyhow, you can't achieve just any task, you need to achieve the important ones, that is when we talk about PRIORITY.
Priority plays a big part in achieving goals, choose your priority every new day.
Priority means a thing that is regarded as more important than others. Priority gives you focus. Choose your priority each time you start a new day, you can do all at once, do the ones which are very important for that day. Michael leboef siad
"Devoting a little of yourself to everything means committing a great deal of yourself to nothing"

Why you need to understand priority

  • Time is our most precious tools

Time is the measurable period during which an action, process exits or take places.

Time cannot be bought, no matter how rich or poor you are, it can only be managed.
Wasted time cannot be regained thats the reason you need to prioritize. You want to know how precious time is, ask:
A student who is to repeat another year at school
A footballer who misses a last minute penalty
A traveller who misses his flight by one second
An athlete who was beaten by one millisecond
Time is important because, you can't do all, so you need to do your priorities with the little time available.

  • Priority removes the largest burden

When you run your daily activities and at the end of the day you completed none, then you feel sad and worried, but when you prioritize it shifts your effort and attention to that task and you can easily complete the task. At the end of the day you feel relieved. Sometimes when you are overwhelmed by a situation, when you are in the darkest of darkness, bearing a great burden that is when your priorities are needed.

  • We cannot do every thing

Let's take an illustration:
In an exam where you are given 4 questions to answer in 1 hour. The instructions also says question 1 carries 60% while questions 2,3,4 carry 40%. Reasonably what questions do you answer first? It has to be question 1 because if time runs out there's a probability of scoring 60% but if you do answer questions 2,3,4 correctly you still only can get 40%, nothing more! That's how priority works, there are things we are giving less concern to which fetchs us great returns but we focus on those minute things. The question is
"When 24 hours runs out, how can you score your success of the day?"

How do you set your priorities?

The following questions will greatly help in choosing your priorities

  • What fetchs me the greatest return?

As you go about your daily activities, you notice some activities yield a much higher return than others do. Comsider that as your priority!

  • What makes you happy?

Have you ever heard of a very successful business man who is not happy with his business? There's really something you do and it gives you joy, just that alone helps to focus more on that thing. For example, if you love to play football and you are good at it, you can go to any extent to play football unlike when you are asked to learn tailoring.

  • What am I good at?

It's not enough to be a happy man at work, it's how good you are at it. So many people like to play football but they don't know how to play. Place your priority on what you do well.

Note: The combination of these three questions help to know what and how to place your priority.

 Discipline

Let me shock you by telling you it's not enough to understand how important priorities are or how to place your priorities, you also need to know how to manage your priorities on a daily basis.
The only guaranteed way I know is DISCIPLINE and HARWORK
Jim rohn said:
"Discipline is the bridge between goals and development"
Once there's commitment to your priorities, you need discipline to get there.
Discipline is a painful process but you have to stand to your feet, endure, bearing in mind what you want to achieve and remembering that "No pain, no gain"
Jim rohn still said
"we all must suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret"
Which of the two pains you do which to suffer, what if I tell you that the pain of regret can be forever but discipline cannot be also, the pain of regret is longer than that of discipline. Discipline is not a punishment, it only helps to inculcate a particular habit and then the pain is gone.
Discipline is like a lane on a track guiding the runner from crossing other lanes. No matter how fast an athlete is, once he leaves his Lane and crosses another he is disqualified. It's a priority of each runner on a track to reach the finish line first but it takes discipline of each one of them to achieve that by maintaining their lanes.
Making your priorities without discipline is like the fastest runner crossing Lanes getting himself disqualified, it is wasted effort! It takes discipline not to let social media steal your time. Without discipline, our priorities will be given less concern and time.

In conclusion
We now know how to chose our priorities and manage it with discipline. Then we can now apply this to our lives daily, and at the end of each week we will realise a big change in our lives.

Say this with me " I choose to endure and experience the pain of discipline "
